We Bought Our First House!!!

Finally, we own a house. After years of paying rent in Mexico, we were able to purchase a house. It has been a long process, as it is difficult for a foreigner to purchase a house in Mexico. We are now in the process of remodeling a "diamond in the rough" and, oh my, has it been tough!

I can finally see the end result of months of changes and challenges of living in a foreign country. The first big challenge was getting all of our toilets to work! Plumbing in Mexico is not the best and we had to replace all 6 bathrooms; for the master bathroom alone, we had to replace the toilet 3 times! Ugh! The second challenge was rewiring the whole house. There were holes in all of my newly painted walls (all the walls in Mexico are made of heavy concrete) for weeks. The original wiring had only 5 circuits and we put in an additional 22!!! No more circuit overloads when running the dryer, microwave and t.v. at the same time! Yes!

My favorite change is the third floor we built because of the amazing view it offers. I like to go up there before the kids wake up and drink my coffee. We are now working on all the small details: lighting, door knobs, closets, etc. I feel like the hardest part is over; although, we plan on adding a media room in the future. The house is now liveable! Whoo hoo!

Will I ever purchase a house and remodel it again? You betcha!

  2. 22 circuits? Wow. Our little Ajijic hamlet has 2. Nothing like a robust circuit board!! I'm impressed.
